Our History

First Baptist Church of Pinehurst celebrated its first worship service on June 9, 2002.  It was out of a vision to plant a new Southern Baptist Church in Pinehurst that our sponsoring entities - First Baptist Church of Aberdeen, First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, the Sandhills Baptist Association and the North Carolina Baptist State Convention - joined together to form and encourage a group to step out in faith to establish a new church start.  The original core group of about 25 began having evening Bible studies in homes in the Pinehurst community.  This core group then began to pray and work toward having its first official Sunday worship service.

The church first began its services in a leased metal building located on Highway 211 a couple of miles west of the traffic circle.  As the congregation began to grow, 14 acres of land were purchased on Highway 211 for a permanent site.  Following the purchase of the land and in response to continuing growth, a building program was set into motion.  In April of 2006, the congregation moved into its present location.  The membership grew from its 46 original charter members to over 300 members by the end of their 6th anniversary in June of 2008.

The church planter was Rev. David Marks.  He was a full time employee of the church along with Mrs. Charlotte Ewing, a part time pianist.  As the church grew, it increased the staff to where today it consists of:  a full time pastor, a full time minister of youth and children, a part time music and worship leader, a part time secretary and part time pianist.
